previous job experience

sailing instructor 4 years : trip guide 2 years : research assistant current

I've been a competitive racing sailor since I was little, and I've been teaching sailing all over the east coast since I was 16! I taught in Maine for 2 years and New Jersey for 2 years. I love working lessons about coastal habitat sustainability into my curriculums each summer. I especially love to see the kids get equally excited about seeing estuary critters as they are when the wind is high!

skills I gained

Beyond actually teaching fundamental and racing sailing this job also taught me how to be a leader. One of my main goals when I was coaching the Opti (small boat) race team was to build a collaborative environment where the kids feel comfortable learning and asking not only me for help but also their teammates. This job as also taught me over and over again how to fail, improvise and overcome while in difficult situations. Overall its a job I'm super proud to have and I hope to return to the coast to study coastal hydrogeology one day!
